No one reads your diary. Not me, not our team — no one.
AI touches it briefly to create your summaries. That’s the only time.
Diarly is a space for your most honest thoughts. That’s exactly why we want to be transparent about how your data is handled — not just because we’re required to, but because you deserve to write without worrying.
What we store
- Account info — email, password (hashed — we never see the original), name, language, timezone, country. The minimum needed to run your account.
- Your entries — diary text, voice recordings, attached photos, and the timestamp and GPS data embedded in photos. This is yours. It’s used only to generate your AI summaries — nothing else.
- Usage records — access timestamps, app logs, device info. Used to fix bugs and keep the service running reliably.
What we do with it
- Sign-up, login, and running the service
- AI summarization and classification of your entries — the core of what Diarly does
- Keeping the service stable and preventing abuse
- Responding to your support requests
We do not use your data for ads, sell it to anyone, or analyze it for marketing.
How long we keep it
When you delete your account, everything is permanently erased after 30 days. The 30-day window is there in case you change your mind. We retain data beyond that only when required by law — separately, and for no longer than required.
Third-party services
Because AI summaries require external processing, your entries briefly pass through these services. We share only what’s needed. We don’t sell or share your data for any other purpose.
- Anthropic — summarizes and classifies your diary text. Once done, that’s it.
- OpenAI — transcribes your voice recordings to text.
- Resend — sends welcome and notification emails.
Each service processes data under its own privacy policy. We send only the minimum information required for the feature to work.
Your rights
You can view, edit, or delete your data at any time. Most of this is available directly in the app settings. For anything else, reach out below.
Security
Passwords are stored using one-way hashing — we can’t recover your original password. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Our servers run in an access-controlled environment.
Contact
Questions, requests, or concerns about your data are always welcome.
